Devotion to Christian Fellowship (Part
3)
(a) We are partakers of the divine nature. 2Pet. 1:4
(b) We share the same work and bear the same yoke. 2Cor. 5:18-20; Matt. 11:29; Eph.4:16; Phil. 1:5.
(c) We share together our joys, pleasures and possessions. 1Cor. 12:26; Act. 2:44-45.
(d) We share fellowship together in sufferings and sorrows. Phil. 1:29; 1Cor. 12:26; Phil. 3:10.
Wherever there is
genuine fellowship and unity among believers, there is a flowing together in
all this dimensions. None of them will be lonely in joy or in sorrow. And none
will lack. By this, the world will know that Jesus Christ is truly the Messiah
and they will come to believe in Him. Looking at what you are presently passing
through in your life and how you are handling it, are you really in fellowship?
Discuss
the devotion of the disciples of the old to fellowship with one another in all
the fore-mentioned dimensions.
Act. 4:41-47, 23-37; 11:27-30; 12:1-12;
6:1-7; 1Cor. 3:1-7; Ps.133:1-3.
What was the result of
their devotion to fellowship?
What lessons have you
learnt from their devotion?
Conclusion:
The disciples of the old devoted
themselves unto the oneness of the Body of Christ and to fellowship. There were
so committed to this that they were willing to inconvenience themselves and
jeopardize their lives and future in order to achieve it. They laid down their
time and convenience in order to be united. They prayed together, studied and
suffered together in order to be one. Having understood that they had many
things in common spiritually, it was not difficult for them to share fellowship
together even physically. They shared their substance together and were always
in one accord. The result was that the prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ was
answered in their time (Jn. 17:21, Jn.
13:35). God manifested His power through them, many believed in Christ and
disciples multiplied. They turned their world upside right and there was
revival. Devotion among God’s people hinders the move of the spirit of God. It
has caused a great damage to the Body of Christ in our time. Love for one
another, sincere fellowship among the brethren and unity of the Body of Christ
is what speed up revival in any locality. There, God commands His blessings.
Pray that the Lord will depend on you as you endeavor to keep the unity of the
spirit in the bond of peace.
